Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, though recovering from his third NFL concussion, will travel with the team for their Sunday matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed the decision on Friday, emphasizing the importance of keeping Tagovailoa involved with the team during his recovery.
"Tua's presence will be empowering for him and for the team," McDaniel said. "Even though he won’t play, having him around will help him stay connected and focused."
Tagovailoa, who suffered his latest concussion in last week's game against the Buffalo Bills, was placed on injured reserve earlier this week. McDaniel stressed that the focus remains on Tagovailoa’s long-term health but noted the benefits of having him around on gamedays.
“Having Tua around is empowering for him as a human being to recover from injury,” McDaniel added, emphasizing that there’s no rush for Tagovailoa to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol. "With competitors, sometimes you can do more harm than good."
In the meantime, Skylar Thompson will start at quarterback for Miami. Thompson, who filled in after Tagovailoa's injury last week, is expected to take the reins until the team’s franchise quarterback is cleared to return.
