FIU's 7th Annual Korean Language and Culture Festival

The Department of Modern Language and the Korean Culture Club are proud to co-present the annual Korean Language and Culture Festival hosted at FIU Ballrooms on Campus throughout the day on Monday, September 30, with support from FIU Korean Language Empowerment Cub. 

A variety of activities are available for visitors to learn about and engage with this significant cultural tradition, including live performances, guided gallery talks and tours, hanbok (한복) clothing try-on and photo zones, a traditional “charye” (차례) ancestral tribute display, Korean food talks, cultural presentations, dancing, singing competitions, trivia Korean games, Korean makeup demonstrations, Korean-style food vendors, and much more. A comprehensive program of events and activities is provided below, running from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

FIU students from multiple backgrounds and off-campus guests gathered at FIU Ballrooms to celebrate their passion for Korea’s culture and held performances from FIU K-Pop dance team. The event will also have raffles, prizes, and certificates.

Juan David, a FIU junior, joined the event and also expressed how surprised he was by the turnout. “This is the first time I can experience a new Asian culture,” expresses David. “I used to believe that Asian culture originated in China, but this experience has convinced me otherwise.”

Koreans, their history, their geographic location, and the impacts of nearby civilizations like China, Japan, and Mongolia all contribute to the country's culture. Confucianism, which prioritizes family, education, and the elder generation, has an impact on it. As seen by its artistic expression, traditional Korean culture also respects simplicity and harmony as well as nature. 

A distinctive writing system for theKorean language, Hangul, was created in the fifteenth century to promote literacy. Language and culture are inextricably linked since they are products of the local populace. Apart from that, a calligraphy kiosk is set up for attendees to try writing their own names in Korean on paper.

In addition, attendees may learn about Korean cuisine culture. The varied culinary tradition of Korea, referred to as “hansik”, is distinguished by a well-balanced combination of plant and animal ingredients, with different main and side dishes. The Korean people hold that medicine and food have the same origins, and "K-Food" is becoming more and more well-known for its health advantages, which include reducing cancer and obesity.

The 7th Annual Korean Language and Culture Festival, hosted by FIU, showcases the nation's rich cultural legacy and sense of community. It presents a distinct viewpoint on Korean life by combining elements of both contemporary and traditional cultures. Visitors may embrace both past and current customs while connecting with the heart and spirit of Korea by taking part in this celebration.
