Taylor Swift's Era Tour Equals Business Booming

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

Taylor Swift is a name that most of you guys have probably heard for years. Swift has been in the industry since 2004 and had a top 100 billboard song as early as 2006. She has released 10 albums during those years, all depicting different styles and eras in her life.

That word, "eras", encompasses the theme of her latest tour. It began in March to celebrate her illustrious 17-year career. But what’s so special about it? Artists go on tour all the time, right? Wrong! The "Eras" tour has claimed the hearts of Swifties worldwide while contributing significantly to the U.S. economy.

There is so much to unpack. As of now, the Eras tour has 53 shows completed. By the time it finishes, it will have had 146 performances. If the tour continues to succeed, it will surpass 1 billion by March; Officially becoming the most successful tour in music history with months to spare.

That alone shows you how massive this tour is. But the impact won't stop there. The "eras" tour is projecting 5 billion dollars in customer spending by the end of its run. She is out earning events like the Super Bowl, one of the most historically profitable events in American History. Philadelphia, Boston, and Cincinnati report they have gotten the highest hotel bookings since 2020, with Chicago setting an all-time record.

“If Taylor Swift were an economy, she’d be bigger than 50 countries.” Dan Fleetwood - President of Research and Insights at Question Pro What makes this concert tour exceptional?

What makes this concert tour exceptional? Why are so many people willing to spend endless money on tickets but even fashionable outfits and travel to other states to watch her perform?

I say the biggest reason is the build-up. All 10 of Taylor Swift's albums have unique themes and stories expressed through iconic songs. As the music has passed on over the generations, people have grown emotionally attached and nostalgic to her work. As such, her concerts bring that emotion to life on stage. With the not-too-distant isolation of the pandemic, it's the emotional release people need.

The success of the tour has now spawned a movie. The film will dive into the factors that make her performances captivating. It will allow Swifties to relive their memories while introducing the experience to new audiences. For anyone wondering how the movie will perform, it set a single-day presale record with 26 million.

Taylor Swift has seen tremendous success not just artistically but economically. Regardless of how you feel about her music, the numbers show that her stardom will shine on for eras.
