Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been out for a month now. After having some time to fully experience it and see the public’s reaction to it, I can confidently say the game met all expectations and possibly exceeded them. The game came out on fire from the start, as it became the highest-selling game in PlayStation history in the first 24 hours, selling over 2.5 million copies. What makes the record even crazier is that it was a PS5 exclusive, meaning that people also paid over 500 dollars for a console just to play the game.
PS5 sales have not been as high as Sony expected due to a shortage in supply caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic. So this game by Insomniac has been a tremendous blessing for them. This game was also received well by critics. Opencritic rated the game 91% score, and IGN valued it an 8 out of 10.
What makes the game special is that this game is a continuation of the two-part series of ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.” Thus, it allows you to play as both Spider-Men for the first time ever. It also includes one of the most famous Spider-Man villains ever and one of the most famous villains ever: Venom.
With this release, Insomniac Games has established itself as one of the best superhero video game companies, right up there with Batman Arkham creators Rocksteady. These games have been so successful that they’re now making a Wolverine game in the same universe, taking a page right from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's storytelling.
As of November 9th, 5 million copies of Spider-Man 2 have sold, with the number only rising. Despite its short life, the game is now nominated for Game of the Year, with a very high chance of winning.
It’s always great to see a company that cares about the quality of its product. This passion forces the industry to strive for higher standards. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has raised the bar for everyone.
