The Miami Dolphins (8-3) dynamic receiving tandem of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle combined for 216 receiving yards in the first-ever Black Friday matchup in a 34-13 victory against the New York Jets (4-7). The duo topped 100 yards in the same game for the sixth time as teammates. Waddle surpassed Jarvis Landry for most receiving yards by a Dolphins player in their first three seasons. The Penguin has amassed 3,062 yards as a Dolphin with more than a month of football to be played this season.
Miami Dolphins (8-3) safety Jevon Holland inflated Miami’s lead by two possessions heading into halftime with a 99-yard pick-six against the New York Jets (4-7).
“That was absolutely a huge momentum swing that there are very few players that could have pulled off what Jevon did,” McDaniel said when asked about the momentum shift after Holland’s pick-six.
Tua Tagovaiola took on the New York Jets for the first time since the 2021 NFL season. Tagovaiola threw for 243 yards, one touchdown along with two interceptions along with a pick-six right before the first half that gave the Jets some momentum heading into the third quarter.
“Yeah, I think it’s doing much more than what is asked. Trying to be a little too aggressive on certain things. You just can’t do that. With that pick-six, I basically to look at it this way—kind of kept them in the game. Our defense played phenomenal up to that point and throughout the entire game. I just can’t do that.” Tua said about his interception before the first half.
The lone touchdown thrown by Tua was caught by none other than the Cheetah. Tyreek Hill caught his tenth touchdown of the season from Tagovaiola, which leads the NFL through Friday night of week 12, along with nine receptions for 102 yards.
Jets cornerback Brandin Echols brought life to New York when their offense couldn’t. Echols delivered a 26 yard pick-six and forced Tua to throw his second pick of Friday’s contest.
“We’re young on that side and I know they’re fighting. They’re working their tails off. Coaches are trying to figure out how to put them in the best position possible. They’re practicing. They’re working, they’re deliberate and everyone is doing their best.” New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said about the team’s offensive struggles.
Breece Hall produced 49 total yards while Garrett Wilson had seven receptions for 44 yards and the lone offensive touchdown for the Jets that occurred in the latter portion of the game. Tim Boyle threw for 179 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Boyle also took seven sacks for a total loss of 49 yards.
“It’s just coverage issues. At some point, I have to assess the fact that I can’t put the ball in harm’s way or just got to eat the ball and get down.” New York Jets quarterback Tim Boyle said when asked about being sacked seven times.
The Dolphins came out on top in the end 34-13 but couldn’t come out of Met Life Stadium unscathed. In the fourth quarter, linebacker Jaelan Phillips was carted off due to a non-contact injury that is feared to be a season-ending Achilles injury.
The New York Jets fall to (4-7) and face the Atlanta Falcons (4-6) next week who are fresh off a week 11 bye week.
The Miami Dolphins improve to (8-3) and will go against the Washington Commanders (4-8) who are fresh off a Thanksgiving Day loss to the Dallas Cowboys (8-3).
