Wednesday is a coming-of-age mystery comedy. This show is set in the universe of The Addams Family but, it focuses on Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, as a teenager. The show follows her entering a new school called Nevermore Academy, a private school for outcasts with supernatural abilities.

Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams

At first, she resents being there but, quickly gets involved in a series of mysteries, twists, and a murder plot. Wednesday is a dark, witty, and intelligent girl. She befriends her quirky and colorful roommate Enid. She also has her friend Thing that watches over her. Her family plays an important part in season 2 along with some of her other friends from Nevermore.

Although most of the show is set in Nevermore, Wednesday’s activities bleed into the neighboring town called Jericho where non-outcasts aka Normies live. This show is a mix of mystery, comedy, dark, and relatable teenage angsts.

In Season 2, you can see how characters grow up and have character arcs. However, things get much darker. Wednesday has a psychic ability, and she sees a vision about Enid’s Death -and she’s the cause. She does what she can to save Enid’s life. After success saving Enid’s life, she gets another vision. In the new vision, an Addams die.

Now that danger is hitting close to home, herfamily plays a much bigger and important part. Past betrayals from her parents youth come back to hurt them. Viewers finally get a backstory to some side characters this season such as, her parents, “Thing”, and Moring Song-a cult that uses sirens like Bianca (one of Wednesday’s friends) and her mom. Many fans call this show a “spooky mix” making Wednesday so binge-worthy. This show is one of Netflix’s most popular shows to date.

Many fans were conflicted about the casting for Gomez Addams (Wednesday’s father) in the hit Netflix show Wednesday. Fans expected for the character to resemble the casting from The Addams Family movies from the 1990s. However, Netflix decided that they wanted the character to resemble the original comic strip, originally released in 1938. Some prefer the original, while others think that a resemblance to the 90s Gomez was the right choice. Against

Luis Guzman, fans said that Oscar Issac would have been a better choice. A post on Instagram went viral explaining how fans enjoyed the series but were disappointed with Luiz Guzman’s performance. The video also brought the popular “fan-casting” of Oscar Issac for Gomez. In favor of Luis Guzman, they’re fans that are actually impressed with his performance as Gomez. Fans state that Luiz Guzman is better for role to due age and acting ability.

The Addams Family movies from the 90s were a copy of the original to begin with

so, fans have stated that reference to the original was actually done well.In the 1991 film and “Wednesday,” both share a common theme of dark quirkiness and how the family operates. The characters themselves are also the same. Since both the movies and show are based on the 1938 comic strip, you can see how the characters are the same. In the movies, Wednesday is a kid.

The show continues the family into Wednesday’s teenage years. There are some

difference worth mentioning. The movies follow the family as a unit. It has

more family problems than individuals issues. The show, although it has the

entire family in it, follows Wednesday specially. The show follows her personal

issues such as, school, friends, love triangles, and her own psychic ability.

Wednesday has multiple impacts on today’s trends and culture. First,

There was the “Wednesday Dance” of 2022. This dance took the TikTok world

by storm with millions of people copying the distinct dance from Season 1. It

was with Lady Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary”. Thanks to the show, not only did

the dance get popular but the song Bloody Mary went viral and became one the

most streamed songs in 2022. In the latest season, there was another dance

scene where pop-star Lady Gaga made a song for the soundtrack following the

success of Bloody Mary.

After 5 years of not performing on the VMAs, she performed the song from the latest season “Dancing until I’m dead” where she even copied dance movements from the show.

Outside of social media, Wednesday has recently made a collab with popular fast-food chain Wendy’s. Wendy’s confirmed that collaboration was due to how both Wednesday and the Wendy’s girl share the same iconic pig tail look. In edition to the same hairstyles, the collab brought a new “Wednesday meal” that share the same iconic color pallet as the character Wednesday.

The Meal of Misfortune meal includes a “Rest in 10-piece” chicken nuggets, small fries, a special “Raven’s Blood” frosty with a dark cherry swirl and a coffin-shaped spoon, and two mystery “Dips of Dread” sauces in a deep purple color.

The whole meal has blacked-out packaging. The sauces have 4 different flavors.

The season 2 finale left viewers excited for next season. The show has already been renewed for a third season even with the release being less than a month.

Season 2’s cliffhanger left many unanswered questions such as: What is going to happen to Tyler and Mrs. Capri? Can Wednesday save Enid? Why did Aunt Ophelia say “Wednesday Must Die?”

Despite the theories and questions, one thing that can be known is the excitement leading into season 3 of Wednesday coming out on Netflix in 2026.
