On February 9th, 2025, the Philadelphia Eagles claimed their second Super Bowl title in franchise history with a commanding 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles were dominant from the start and led, 24-0, at halftime. The Chiefs' offense, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, faced significant challenges throughout the game. The Eagles' defense applied relentless pressure, resulting in six sacks and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. The Chiefs were unable to cross midfield until late in the third quarter, and their first points came only as the third quarter concluded.
The Eagles' balanced offensive attack was too much for Kansas City, as quarterback Jalen Hurts efficiently moved the ball down the field. Hurts went 17 of 22 for 221 yards and two touchdown passes and added one rushing score. His chemistry with wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were particularly productive, with Smith catching a 46-yard touchdown that gave Philadelphia a cushion in the third quarter.
On defense, rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean shined, intercepting Mahomes and bringing it back 38 yards to the house in the second quarter. And the Eagles’ front seven, led by Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat, harassed Mahomes throughout, holding him to short pickups and uncomfortable tosses. Kansas City’s offensive line struggled to handle Philadelphia’s aggressive pass rush as several drives stalled.
While Kansas City attempted a late rally, with Mahomes throwing touchdown passes to Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins in the fourth quarter, it was too little too late. Eagles kicker Jake Elliott contributed four crucial field goals, further cementing the team’s control. By the end, Philadelphia’s overall dominance in both phases of the game had positioned it at the top of the NFL once again.
